Source registry

Every source we search, and the authority to search it

This is the whole list. Not a category summary — the actual connector registry the collection engine runs, with each source's operator, its fee, and the paragraph of law that makes searching it lawful without the subject's consent.

Short answer

Verified

Sleuthify operates 39 record connectors across 6 jurisdictions: federal and provincial corporate registries, court and tribunal records, land titles, personal property and lien registries, insolvency records, professional licensing registers, sanctions lists, telephone and business directories, and the indexed web. 26 carry no search fee; 13 are fee-bearing registries.

The authority

Five categories, and nothing outside them

PIPEDA permits collecting personal information without consent only where it is publicly available information — and that phrase is a closed list of five categories in the Regulations Specifying Publicly Available Information. Every connector declares which one it relies on.

Lawful basis across the registry, with the provision each one cites.

A source that does not fit one of these categories needs a different basis — statutory authority, the open court principle, or your own consent as our client — or it does not ship.

The boundary

Social profiles: resolve, never harvest

This is the line that most distinguishes us from the products people expect, so it gets its own section rather than a footnote.

Social media is in none of PIPEDA’s five publicly-available categories. The Privacy Commissioner reached exactly that conclusion about a company that scraped publicly-visible profile photographs at scale, held the collection unlawful, and ordered the service out of Canada. Public visibility is not public availability.

So the only social connectors in the registry are confirm-only, and they run on an identifier you already have. For a profile URL you supply we record three things: whether it resolves, what public display name is returned, and whether that name is consistent with the subject. We do not store posts, images, follower lists, connections, or biographies, and we do not search platforms to enumerate a person’s accounts.

A handle check is reported as a lead for you to verify, never as an attributed account. Widening this is a legal decision rather than an engineering one, and it is not on the roadmap.

The other half of the list

Sources that do not exist, however much you want them to

Half of honest coverage is naming what Canada simply does not publish. These are not paywalls or roadmap items.

A public sex offender registry

No source
Canada's National Sex Offender Registry is not public. Only police may access it. Any site claiming to search it for you is lying.

A nationwide criminal record search

No source
There is no public national criminal record database. Court records are provincial and often counter-only; a true record check comes from the RCMP via fingerprints, with the subject's consent.

Nationwide driver or vehicle records by name

No source
Provincial motor vehicle records are not public. Plate-to-owner lookups are restricted to law enforcement and specific statutory purposes.

Marriage and divorce certificates by name

No source
Vital statistics records are restricted to the parties and immediate family. A central divorce registry search requires being a party or their counsel.

Bank accounts, balances, or income

No source
Not public anywhere, by any means. Anyone offering this is describing a crime.

Ontario property owned, searched by owner name

No source
Ontario's land registry indexes by property, not by owner. Name-to-property in Ontario needs manual research or an inference from other records.

Registry reconciled against the connector definitions on 2026-08-12. Operators change their interfaces, fees, and terms without notice; where a source becomes unavailable it is disabled in the registry and every affected report says so in its gaps section rather than silently returning less.
